The Board of Managers of the Good Shepherd Centre operate the facility and have full responsibility for the financial and professional management of the Secure/Close Support Unit.
The Good Shepherd Centre together with St John's, St Philips and St Mary's form the Cora Foundation, a centralised strategic management company. Within the Core Foundation the care, education and control offered to young people is based on Christian values, standards and principles and within the Good Shepherd Centre this is promoted by the Board of Managers.
The Secure Unit comprises of three 6 bed house units, an education facility, a recreation facility, a health and admissions facility, an administration and training facility and a catering facility.
One house unit will function as an assessment unit with all young people, on admission, receiving a 21 day assessment; another house unit will function as a short term stay unit with the ability to also provide assessments; and the other house unit will function as a longer term stay unit.
The Close Support Unit comprises of 6 beds and will function as a transition resource facilitating girls who may be ready to leave the secure unit but still require extra support before moving onto a less structured resource. Girls residing in the Close Support Unit will access education in the open facility of the Good Shepherd Centre or other community based resources.
The Close Support Unit will take referrals from all house units of the secure unit and consider referrals from other secure units.
